Be the Church
It seems from the very beginning of Jesus’ ministry He began to call people out -- out from their jobs, homes, families, religions, fears, diseases, sins, worldviews, laws, traditions and lives. He called out men, women, free, slave, Jew and Gentile. He called them out of death and offered eternal life. Ecclesia is the Greek word the English New Testament translates as church. It literally means the gathering of the called out. If you are a follower of Jesus, you too have been called out. And when we gather, two or more, we are the church.
We often confuse church with an institution, a location, a building or even a day. Yet you can’t go or do church. You see, you are the church! Church is the fabric of who we are as believers; it is the community to which Jesus has called us into. It the community He sends us out from.
To live this out, to be the church requires that we actually gather together. This was done communally at first, then by community, and eventually once a week at corporate worship. Today most believers attend worship twice a month and think the building is a church. How do we reclaim our identity?
At PCC we desire to pray, grow, serve and celebrate as a community, and live this out beyond Sunday. To do this, we need to gather the called out. In the upcoming months you will hear more about small groups and the PCC families that live in your neighborhood. It is our intention to gather every attendee and connect them with the families that live closest to them. We hope that you will become aware and better connected to the church family you are a part of. These community groups will be launching pads for shared meals, prayer, support, encouragement, service and growth.
Corporate worship is very important, but it is one event on one day. We are called out to gather beyond Sunday; to live our lives in community. We are called to be the church!
