Adult Small Groups
For the
first 300 years, the church didn’t have small groups, it was small groups. The core practices of
Jesus and His earliest followers demonstrate the vital link between strong
community life and the effectiveness of the local church. They modeled for us
and called us to live in relationship with God and in Christ-like community
with one another. At PCC it is our expectation to be this type of church.
In the next eighteen months we hope to shift our current Care Groups into a new
small group model. Many of our current groups have been meeting for
decades. It is not our intention to “break up” any group that wishes to
continue in the traditional model. We are pleased that these groups are
healthy and thriving!
It is our
desire for PCC to be a church of small groups that corporately gathers to
worship. To be a member of the PCC family is to be growing, praying,
serving and celebrating in community beyond Sunday. In order to live into
this call, we must begin to facilitate such community living.
It is our
intention that all small groups be operating as places to develop believers and
faith leaders. We will offer three types of groups, Community Groups
(geographically based and intergenerational), Care Groups (life stage based)
and Explore Groups (seeker based). To support these groups we are
building a network of coaches to encourage and equip our small group
leaders. In turn our small group leaders will coach co-leaders within the
group. All groups will be self entry and open to new members until they
reach 8 to 12 people, at which time a new group will be launched.
Being a part
of something greater than oneself is the Christian experience. In small
groups individuals gathers to better the group, in turn groups gather to better
the church, churches gather to better the Kingdom. This shift will be
challenging for individuals, but it will greatly benefit the entire church.
As we make
this shift we will continue to do small groups in our current model, but on a
decelerated scale. For more information on how to join a small group or
