The Bible
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the final authority for Christian life and faith.
We believe 4 things about the Bible:
- The Bible is Authoritative: All the words in Scripture are God’s words. To disbelieve or disobey any word of Scripture is to disbelieve or disobey God.
- 2 Tim 3:16, Hebrews 4:12, 2 Peter 1:19-21, 2 Peter 3:15-16, John 17:17
- In simple terms, we believe that the Bible always tells the truth concerning everything it talks about and that the Bible holds every person accountable for its contents.
- The Bible is Understandable: The Bible was written in such a way that its teachings are able to be understood by all who will read it, seeking God’s help and being willing to follow it.
- Crucial to the correct understanding of the Bible is understanding the context and genre of each passage of scripture
- Intake of the Bible is a Necessity for one’s life: The necessity of Scripture means that the Bible is necessary for the knowledge of the Gospel, for developing spiritual life, and for the knowledge of God’s will. It is not necessary for knowing that God exists or for a general knowledge about God’s character and moral laws.
- Matt 4:4, Ro 10:13-17
- The Bible is Sufficient: Scripture contains all the words God intended his people to have at each stage of redemptive history, and it now contains everything we need God to tell us for salvation, for trusting and for obeying him.
- 2 Tim 3:15-17
- Ramifications:
- We should search God’s word for answers
- We will not add anything to the Scriptures.
- We consider no other writings of equal value to Scripture.
- We will not count any other guidance from God as equal to Scripture. Top
